Issue 98 - March 21, 2007
From Your Director ...
This past Thursday evening I had the privilege of attending the Jackson Sun Readers Choice Awards Reception held at the beautiful Aeneas facility in downtown Jackson. Jackson Downtown Development Corporation's Shannon Street Blues & Heritage Festival was one of the award winners this year for the "Best Annual Community Event." It is both an honor and a tribute to our organization and to those that worked so hard to make the Bluesfest as great as it has become. We are proud to put on this annual fundraiser and we keep trying to make it bigger and better each year. We thank the community for their votes. It makes us want to try even harder this year.
We are deep in the planning of the 2007 Bluesfest scheduled for June 1st and 2nd this year. It is really going to be a great event, with five prominent bands booked for both Friday and Saturday evenings. An array of food vendors are also in the works, and as usual, we are guaranteed great weather. Special group tables are now on sale for $200.00 which included seating for eight.
We are still looking for non-profits that want to do a fundraiser on Saturday as a sanctioned event under the umbrella of the Bluesfest. We do a high volume of advertising, and sanctioned events are included in all the exposure. We would like to see things going on all day in addition to the 5-K Run, Motorcycle Run, Jackson in June BBQ Cookoff and Pancake breakfast. Give us a call, and we'll be glad to help you organize your own special event.
We are also presently recruiting and registering volunteers. We need more than 100 volunteers to help make the two days flow. If you're interested in helping out while having a good time doing it, give us a call. Pre-registration is required. Talk to someone that helped out last year, and they will tell you what a great time they had. Sign up today . . . You'll be glad you did!!! |
