Issue 92 - February 7, 2007

From Your Director ...

On Monday, I attended the Emerging Business Luncheon held at Union University's Coburn Dining Room, sponsored by Union's McAfee School of Business and Steele Martin Jones and Borgognoni, CPA's. This is always a very special event, with a lot of excitement in the air. The Chamber recognizes businesses that have been in business less than five years and who are actively positioning themselves for growth and success. The Chamber folks are experts at keeping a secret, and there wasn't a hint of speculation as to who were to be the winners upon our arrival.

The guest speaker, Mike Seals, owner of Jabezco International Group, former recipient of the prestigious award, gave an excellent motivational speech that inspired us all. He equated running a business to plays in a football game. Everyone there "got it", but me, but he was right on target on the business plan stuff - Good job Mike.

The winners of the Emerging Business Awards were: Dickson Gallery of Fine Art, Preferred Plus Mortgage, Sensational Scents, Trinity Solutions, and Trussmark, Inc. Congratulations to all of you for all your hard work and for being a risk taker. You are to be commended for your hang-in-there-ness!!

Now, on Thursday night, the 8th, at the Jackson Fairgrounds Park, 800 South Highland Avenue, the annual Pinnacle Awards Gala will take place where fourteen businesses, six of which are from the downtown area, will be vying for the top honors. You need to plan on attending this wonderful event and help recognize these great businesses. You'll be glad you did!!!
