Downtown Jackson is starting the New Year out right with their "Fabulous Friday" scheduled for this Friday the 26th from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. You won't want to miss this one, with the downtown coming alive after five. There will be something to enjoy for everyone with an array of shops opening for a special Friday evening of fun music, and entertainment. The lineup is great, so read on for a synopsis of what will be taking place.

Artopia, 575 Royal Street, will feature their recently exhibited art displays. Plan to explore all nine of the newly opened shops. For more information you can call 554.2929.

Art Under a Hot Tin Roof, 114 East Lafayette Street, will present a showing of works from Andrew Bucci including watercolor figures, abstracts and landscapes from the 1950's through 1990's. For more information you can call 427.2772.

(The) Bakers Rack, 205 East Lafayette Street, & Premier Players Productions will be presenting "Miss Milestones Means Murder" Dinner Theatre at 7:00 p.m. Call 424.6163 for reservations.

(The) Dickson Gallery of Fine Art, 118 East Lafayette Street, will host a "Meet the Artist" reception for a "Refrigerator Art" collection. Jackson Parks and Recreation Department to Host Theatre Awards

Theatre Awards 2007Jackson Parks and Recreation Department presents its 20th annual Theatre Awards Ceremony for its Children's and Teen Theatre. Awards will include Best Actor and Best Actress. Admission is $2.00 for the awards ceremony only and $7.00 for the reception and awards ceremony. The event will take place January 26th, at 6:30 p.m. at The Ned R. McWherter West Tennessee Cultural Arts Center, 314 East Main Street. For more information you can call 425.8580.

 

BabyFest 2007 to Take place

The Women's and Children's Center of Jackson-Madison County General Hospital are inviting expecting parents to learn more about childbirth, parenting and services offered throughout West Tennessee. BabyFest, an annual event, will be presented from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. January 27th at the Jackson Fairgrounds Park, 800 South Highland Avenue. It is co-sponsored by West Tennessee Parent and Family Magazine. Admission is $2.00 per person for ages 12 and older. For more information you can call 425.6448.

Great China Circus Acrobats to Perform at The Ned

The Great China Circus Acrobats come from Three Gorges Province of China. The performances will be at The Ned R. McWherter West Tennessee Cultural Arts Center, 314 East Main Street. It will be a thrilling presentation of classical Chinese physical art, showcasing dramatic lighting, high energy dance and spectacular costumes. The performance is fast paced and fun but also pays tribute to the historical elements of the Chinese people and their culture. There will be two shows on Saturday the 27th at 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., and a 3:00 p.m. performance on Sunday the 28th. For more information you can call 425.8587.

 

Painted Lady to Offer Cooking Lessons

Starting on Tuesday, January 30th, and continuing through the 24th of February, The Shops at the Painted Lady, 415 East Lafayette Street will be offering cooking lessons.

Chefs including Gena Mandle, Carl Jones, Michael and Kim Everett and Teresa Morgan will be sharing their culinary skills, tips and talents. You won't want to miss this great opportunity. On Tuesday, the 30th, Gena Mandle will instruct "Soups and Stews" from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

"B for Business" Scheduled at the Chamber

What's the latest business buzz? Find out at the monthly "B for Business," a networking opportunity for small businesses that is co-sponsored by the Chamber's West Tennessee Business Resource Center and First Tennessee Bank.

The topic for the next "B for Business" scheduled for Thursday, January 25th is "Continuing Education - How to Continue to Grow with Your Small Business." It will be presented by Joel Newman, with the Small Business Counseling Service, and Charles Roth, with the Tennessee Small Business Development Center. "Start time" is 7:45 a.m. at the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce, 197 Auditorium Street. Reservations are required as space is limited. You may register for the event by calling 427.7900.

 

Life on Purpose Coming to the Civic Center

Once again, the special inspirational gathering "Life on Purpose" will be taking place in Jackson.

On Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, January 28th, 29th, and 30th, Church of Christ minister Jeff Walling from Charlotte, North Carolina will be presenting "God's Game Plan for Life" each evening at 7:00 p.m. at the Carl Perkins Civic Center, 400 South Highland Avenue.

In addition on Sunday from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Mike Gottfried, ESPN college football analyst, will be presenting "Locker Room to Life."
