Issue 83 - December 6, 2006

From Your Director ...

As I walked to lunch today I saw a crew of city workers taking the cherry tree stumps out on the corner of Liberty and Lafayette Street. Thank you City for making the way for new plantings in the spring.

On East Main Street another City crew was sweeping leaves off the street and sidewalks. Thank you City for continuing to keep the downtown looking neat and well kempt.

As I walked past planters in winter bloom in front of the buildings I couldn't help but be aware of how special our downtown is, and the fact that so many really care about it. Thank you Master Gardeners' and the County Extension Agency for the plants and plant...ors.

And thank you City for the banners and Christmas lights. How beautiful the downtown looks in the evening with the glow of white lights.

And thank you property owners and tenants for taking such pride in your buildings and spaces. Our unique architecture and stately historic buildings certainly make a statement as to our pride and commitment to such an important quadrant of the City.

If you haven't been downtown for awhile, it would be worthwhile to plan a visit soon. You are in for a pleasant surprise. You'll be glad you did!!!
