Issue 79 - November 8, 2006

From Your Director ...

Looking for something to do with your holiday visitors? You need to take the time to visit the Ned R. McWherter West Tennessee Cultural Arts Center, 314 East Main Street, not only on special occassions but on a regular basis. Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. each day there are two galleries open that show a variety of art exhibits with diverse mediums. The exhibits are different each month so multiple visits are necessary to "see it all" and experience the talent that is made available free to the public.

It is a shame that we don't frequent the great cultural and art opportunities available in Jackson. The City has great venues, and local artistic groups such as the Jackson Teen Theater and The Theater Guild, as well as non-local performers provide us with great talent, and wonderful performances.

So . . . the next time you start to plan a road trip to Memphis or Nashville for your entertainment pleasure, check and see what is happening right here in your own downtown. We need to support all the effort that takes place in putting on these events. You'll be glad you did!

Honor Our Veterans

Saturday, November 11th is Veterans Day. World War I, known at the time as "The Great War" officially ended when the Treaty of Versailles was signed in 1918. In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11th as the first Armistice Day.

Please don't forget to fly your flags and honor American Veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good. Thank you to our armed forces. Our prayers are with you.
