From Your Director . . .

Saturday afternoon, October 28th, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm will be a very special time in downtown Jackson. From 1:00 to 2:00 pm JDDC, E-Plus TV 6, and West Tennessee Parent and Family will be hosting the Second Annual Halloween Extravaganza starting with a "Don't Be Scared, You Can Be On TV! Live" opportunity. Children two to twelve years old can enter a costume contest with winners receiving a gift certificate for a family dinner out, courtesy of E-Plus TV 6 and be featured on "6 In The City" on Halloween. Participants will then have a chance to participate in a live TV studio production for an opportunity to showcase their costumes. The broadcast will be hosted by Marquetta Beard, Communications Coordinator for JEA. Replays of the October 28th costume parade will also take place on Monday, October 30th, 4-6 pm and 9-10 pm, and Tuesday, October 31st, 10:30-11:30 am, 2-3pm, 4-5pm, 7-8pm, and 10:30-11:30pm. Be sure to check www.EPlusTV6.com for additional replays of their TV6 programming.

Following the TV opportunity, downtown businesses will host "Trick of Treating" from 2:00 to 4:00pm. Maps for participating businesses will be available at the TV station or in front of City Hall on Main Street. Each Business will also have appropriate identification. This will be a very special time for the children, so plan on coming downtown for a fun filled afternoon. You'll be glad you did.

 
 
 
 

Annual Ghost Tales of Jackson to take place on the 30th.

A Jackson tradition, the popular annual "Ghost Tales of Jackson" with Jackson historian, dn English will take place in front of the courthouse on Main Street on Monday Evening, October 30th, at sundown (6:30pm).

This year an extra addition will be added, The Premier Players will assist in presenting "The Spirit of Downtown Jackson" with live performances to enhance the evening.

So, bring a lawn chair, maybe a blanket, pile the kids in the car and come downtown for this wonderful tradition. You will be glad you did. For more information you can call 427.7379.

 

Downtown Tavern to host Halloween Fundraiser

On Friday evening, October 27th the festivities start at 6:00 pm at the Downtown Tavern, 208 North Liberty Street. This specially planned evening is a fundraiser for Relay For Life, "Fall For A Cure" and will start with a dinner prepared by Outback Steakhouse.

Entertainment will be provided by the Brandon Lewis Band from 6:00 to 9:30pm and Wes & Allyson Henley will entertain from 9:30pm to 1:00am. The event is sponsored by Hardee, Martin, Dauster & Donahoe, PA, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and Outback Steakhouse. Tickets are $35.00 per person or $60.00 per couple. Marguerite's Gallery of Fine Art to host Special Event on the 27th

On Friday evening, October 24th, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm Marguerite's Gallery of Fine Art, 124 East Baltimore Street, will be hosting Galleries Ghostly-A-Go-Go for a "Make a Wish Foundation" event.

Come and enjoy the music of Blueberry Jam Band, party down while benefiting this worthwhile cause PICASSO PIZZA will be providing the food. A costume contest will be taking place with other fun events highlighting the evening.Cost for the evening is $10.00. For more information you can call 427.3006.

 

Dickson Gallery of Fine Art to feature Pottery Show and Sale

The Dickson Gallery of Fine Art, 118 East Lafayette Street, presents their first annual fall pottery show and sale featuring stoneware pottery by Amanda Bain. The "Meet the Artist" opening reception will be held Friday evening, October 27th, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm in cooperation with "Fabulous Friday". This special pottery show and sale will continue Saturday, October 28th, from 10:00am to 4:00 pm. The first 15 people to attend Friday evening dressed in Halloween costume style will receive a 5% discount coupon toward the purchase of a piece of Amanda's work that evening. BPW to present Dinner and Halloween Walking Tour

An evening including a dinner at the Bakers Rack, 205 East Lafayette Street, with a Halloween/Ghost walking Tour is being offered by the Jackson Business and Professional Women (BPW) on Friday evening, October 27th, starting at 6:30 pm. At 7:30 pm 45 minute tours will be conducted with guides leading the way to favorite downtown haunts.

Dinner and tour cost is $35.00 per person or the tour only is $25.00 per person. All proceeds will go to the BPW Scholarship Fund.

You will also have time to enjoy Fabulous Friday at the Art Galleries and downtown shops that will be taking place that evening. For more information you can call 423.2234.

 

Friends of the Library to host Special Book Review

Mississippi writer and Pulitzer Prize nominee Peggy Webb will be the speaker at the friends of the Library on November 2nd, at the Noon Book Review. Peggy, who commented that her type of humorous romance is sometimes called "old geezer lit," is the author of more than 200 magazine humor columns, more than 50 novels, numerous blues songs and a screenplay (co-written with Charlene Keel) based on her best selling novel, "Where Dolphins Go."

Peggy launched her career more than twenty years ago and since then her novels have consistently appeared on bestseller lists and won national awards.
