From Your Director . . .

I recently read the September 25th article in The Jackson Sun written by Jessalyn Baily, and experienced mixed emotions as I comprehended what she had written and its full impact. The headline, "Revolution Needed in Education" certainly caught my attention - Revolution is a strong word, so I looked the word up in Webster's Dictionary, and I'm not sure which meaning to apply, as there were several: 1) a sudden momentous change 2) a sudden political overthrow, or 3) activities directed toward bringing about basic changes in the socioeconomic structure. All seemed appropriate to some point, but I liked the last one best.

Actually we are in the midst of a revolution, as we are facing a monumental time of change. A new mayor, soon to be new city engineer, new Library direction, new JEA president, new hospital leadership, new school superintendent, and the list goes on. It sure looks like a revolution to me, but what an opportunity. Jackson can be anything it wants to be, and we are at the threshold of a new era, a new time, an opportunity to become the city that the residents want it to be. It's scary and exciting at the same time, but what an opportunity for a community. I'm ready to be one of the "revolution warriors". Are you?
