  Issue 65 - August 2, 2006

From Your Director . . .

I was invited to the Crime Summit last Friday and was impressed with the diversity of the attendees. It was a reflection on how important this subject matter is and the effect it has on everyone. Don't get me wrong, there was a lot of rhetoric taking place, but basically most of the presenters were impressive and sincere. I was moved by several of them and the courage they had to speak on the subject matter at hand.

It was a great beginning, and now with a new task force, with strong leadership, we are prepared to address the issue head on, and I'm hoping for a great outcome.

The downtown is a "neighborhood", and we need to recognize that fact and partner with each other. Downtown is blessed to have a very low crime rate, and the streets are well lighted and safe. Landscaping is abundant and we have no dilapidated buildings in the central business district. We must and will be cognizant of our abutting "neighborhoods" and be supportive of the Task Force efforts and recommendations. The downtown will remain the heart of the City, one you can and will always be proud of, and a great destination for everyone.
