From Your Director . . .

On August 3rd, 4th, and 5th, Thursday through Saturday, the 2006 Rockabilly Festival will be taking place at the Carl Perkins Civic Center. A lot of people in Jackson seem to disregard this event for some reason, not recognizing what a great opportunity and experience it truly is. Several thousand come from all across the world to share in this momentous spectacular, and we Jacksonians need to support it, too. It's great for our economy.

I went last year and was amazed at the talent, the showmanship and the gathering of Rockabilly history makers. A performer would take the stage, start belting out a song, and I'd think, so that's who made that song famous, and sing right along with him as I still knew all the words. You never know who will be popping on stage. I thoroughly enjoyed each night, and plan on attending again this year.

There will also be a celebrity golf tournament on August 4th at Jones Creek Golf Course as part of the three day event. Johnny Cash's tour bus will also be parked at the Civic Center on Thursday evening, August 3rd, and will be open to the public.

Try to make an effort to attend this years Rockabilly Festival. I think you will be pleasantly surprised and really enjoy this very special musical event. I hope to see you there.

Don't forget that the date for the Conrad Delaney "Farewell Party is Tuesday, August 8th from 6:30 to 9:00 pm at the Fairgrounds Park in the Main Building. The date in last weeks newsletter was incorrect.

16th Annual Women's Health Conference Coming Up

August 17th is the date for the 16th Annual Women's Health Conference at the Carl Perkins Civic Center.

This years theme is "Drive-in to the 50's". There will be health screenings, exhibits, educational classes, dinner, and entertainment. The keynote address will be given by Kathleen Passanisi, an internationally recognized speaker, motivator and humorist.

So pull out your bobby socks and dust off your saddle oxfords and be taken back to the fabulous 50's. Be there or be square.
