   From Your Director ...

It has been two months since I have written an article for this publication. I have enjoyed having my Sunday evenings free since that is usually when I sat down to write, but I miss taking the opportunity to communicate with all of you my perspective on issues and events. I am ready to pass that baton on to the new JDDC Director, as it truly is a responsibility and privilege to be afforded the ability to have a "From the Director" forum.

The 2007 Bluesfest is behind us, and it is too soon to know how we did with our fundraising efforts. The rain Saturday hurt our attendance, but those that did come sure seemed to have a good time. The music was great. We all take Michael Baker for granted as he does such a good job booking the show every year. Thanks Michael for a "job well done", once again. There are so many other people to thank that I will have to do that another way, but from the bottom of my heart, thank you to all of you that volunteered this year in any way and to the attendees, too. It's a lot of hard work, but worth it when you see it grow every year and become a sustaining event we can give to the community.

My tenure with JDDC is also nearing an end. This is my last week to work, and next week my husband and I board our motorhome and drive into the sunset for our very first extended vacation. I am really looking forward to the opportunity to relax and rehabilitate.

JDDC has hired Jill Mendoza as their new Executive Director. She starts yet this week so I get the chance to "show her the ropes", so to speak. She brings new energy, a new perspective, and a new background of experience to the organization. It will be exciting to watch her take JDDC to another level. Lori, June and I welcome her, and will help her in any way. Hope you do too. You'll be glad you did!
