As a professor and director of the Ethnomusicology Regional Studies doctoral
program of the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music, Dr. David Evans is a
specialist in American folk and popular music, particularly blues, spirituals,
gospel, and African-American folk music. He has also written many articles
in academic journals, chapters in books, reviews, and dictionary and encyclopedia
entries. Dr. David Evans has Produced over 30 albums and CDs and
has been awarded a Grammy award for “Best Album Notes.” He performs
blues music and has had many concert appearances as a soloist with a guitar.

2010-03-22 - April 9, 2010 JACKSON, TENNESSEE — First Friday Forum will take place on April 9, 2010 and Jackson Downtown Development Corporation is proud to an-nounce the Madison County Health Action Team will be presenting Dr. Pat Cooper at April's First Friday Forum. Dr. Copper's topic will be “Building a Healthy Community for Healthy Children.”
Dr. Cooper is a nationally recognized consultant and lecturer on community building, systemic education reform and comprehensive school health and inclusion issues. He has worked in various positions in education to help promote school health program focusing mainly on students, but also believes that community wellness is a selling point for economic development. Dr. Cooper is coming to Jackson for a series of meetings and presentations hoping to inspire the creation of a “health summit” in Jackson! With its walk-ability and growing amenities, Downtown has the potential to be a focus of health promotion in Jackson.

JACKSON, TENNESSEE - First Friday Forum continues on April 3rd, 2009, with the presentation of The Secret Holocaust Diaries: The Untold Story of Nonna Bannister, delivered by contributing authors Carolyn Tomlin and Denise George, and family members John and Henry Bannister.

Established in 1904, the Concert Choir has been in existence for over 100 years. Among their most notable performances was rendering music for the funeral of Alex Haley, author of the world famous book, Roots. Their distinguished directors over the years have included Professor Nathaniel Dett, an international pianist and composer and Dr. Mitchell Southall, a nationally renowned choral composer.

Lee Benson, Union University Department Chair and Professor of Art and Director of the Jackson Union Sculpture Tour JUST, will discuss the importance of outdoor art and the JUST program.
The JUST program began in 2003, as an initiative to promote outdoor art in our community. A partnership with the City of Jackson and Union University, JUST has been a hugely successful program garnering positive attention for downtown. Art is truly an expression of a healthy and vibrant community and JUST helps to bring fresh, new sculptures to downtown Jackson each year. 10-7-11 - October First Friday Forum For First Friday Forum on October 7, 2011 Jackson Downtown Development is partnering with Leadership Jackson Alumni Association to bring regionalism and economic development to the forefront. Through the development of the Haywood Mega site in Haywood County many have realized how important it is to work together. By the formation of the Jackson Regional Partnership, the region can have economic development success.
First Friday Forum, Jackson Downtown Development and the Leadership Jackson Alumni Association are welcoming three speakers who are putting a focus on the West Tennessee Region and economic development. Kyle Spurgeon, President and CEO of the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce and Managing Director of Jackson Regional Partnership to share the why and how the Jackson Regional Partnership was formed. Chris Berryman, Senior Project Manager of TVA Economic Development and Cary Vaughn, the Regional Director; Southwest Region Business Development Division for the State of Tennessee Department of Economic and Community Development, will share TVA’s and the State of Tennessee’s reason for supporting the Jackson Regional Partnership. They will also be able help us understand why economic development has a more regional approach to promoting an area.
