Issue 251 - March 3, 2010

first friday forum

It’s the first week of March and that can only mean one thing, First Friday Forum is this Friday, March 5, 2010! We are excited about having Area Relief Ministries, American Red Cross, RIFA, and West TN Legal Services be a part of a panel discussion at this month’s First Friday Forum.

JDDC is always looking at the issues that are facing downtown Jackson. The negative turn in the economy has hit us all in various ways, some we see and some we don’t. You know about General Motor’s struggles, the banking industry buyout, lower real estate values, vacant store fronts and job losses. Some may have experienced these issues first hand. We have all had to step back and revaluate our own spending and savings habits during the past year. But what about those who have lost everything or are struggling to hold on to the little they have?

These aren’t just downtown issues, but community issues. The panel discussion on Friday will be addressing some of the things we may not see and how some non-profits are helping our community stay strong during these though times. Join us at 12pm at the First United Methodist Church downtown and learn how we can help others and our community!

First Friday Forum isn’t the only event in downtown; there is the Taste of Jackson, Friendly Frank’s Flea Market, Watch and Timepiece show, The Fur Ball, and The Pinnacle Awards. Go to the calendar of events for information on the other many happenings in downtown Jackson.

Thank you for your continued support of JDDC and downtown Jackson!
